Hong Kong is a place with multiple personalities; the population is mainly Cantonese Chinese but British influence is quite visible.
Macau is a Special Administrative Region of China and one of the world's most densely populated spots.
We treat two adjacent areas together as the Northern Central Region of China.
Northeast China. In ancient times, this was an area of steppes and fierce nomadic tribes, outside the Great Wall built to protect China from those tribes.
North West China was historically a border region with the beginning of the ancient Silk Road, much desert terrain, and mainly Muslim inhabitants including some nomads and rather fierce tribal groups.
The Southern Central Region of China is largely an agricultural area, but it has some quite large cities and considerable industry as well.
